I decided to interview My Good Friend Kristin McKale on what is important to her , a healthy lifestyle and a way to find substitutions for our bad eating habits. Ever since I knew Kristin she had the same goals in life, and seeing her accomplish them and not give up, motivates me to reach my goals even if they are not the same.
C : What made/inspired you to start creating an opportunity to share your healthy habits with others?
K : Over the last 2 or so years I have taken my health and made it a priority. I realized that what I was putting into my body was what was fueling me during my day and especially during my workouts. I started to meal prep my daily lunches and dinners. I have always had a sweet tooth and those who know me well have seen me in actions when desserts or anything like that is in front of me. That is where I noticed I didn’t have the healthy options that I needed. I looked at the labels of muffins, cupcakes, etc and noticed they were filled with horrible ingredients that were not going to help me reach my goal. This is how and why I started to create my own dessert goodies that were healthy and “diet” friendly.
I wanted to then share with others because I knew there had to be others out there like me who LOVE sweets but do not want to deal with the sugar crash, excess calories & guilt that many feel after demolishing unhealthy treats.
C : What are your favorite muffins to make and why?
K : Well I do not like to play favorites since they are all so delicious, but I would say my favorite ones are the pumpkin chocolate ship. They have a great balance of pumpkin spice and sweet with the chocolate chips.
What other bake goods can you make with a healthier twist to it?
Besides muffins which have been by far the most popular item I also can make donuts, pancakes, waffles, and cookies. I like to think that I can make anything into a healthier alternative.
C : What are the benefits from eating your product compared to; let’s say buying a muffin on the go from Dunkin Donuts or Starbucks?
K : My items are baked to order. They also do not have any added sugar like many “to-go” type companies. I have made my muffins with lower calories, fat & carbs. For example we will look at the comparison of my protein chocolate chip pumpkin muffin compared to a Starbucks pumpkin muffin:
· MINE = 132 calories-3 grams Fat-17 grams Carbs-7 Grams Protein
· Starbucks= 350 Calories-14 grams Fat- 54 Grams Carbs -5 grams protein
"I have a passion for living a healthy life style. I enjoy making things and creating things that will fit my life style while still enjoying myself. I know that everything in moderation is the key to creating a balanced life style that is sustainable. When I discovered the joy that I have for fitness and health over the last few years, it made me really want to share it with others. I want others to live their best life especially those that are close to me. I have always been there for anyone who has ever come to me for advice or suggestions on life, eating, working out, etc. Each of us has the ability to live the amazing life we have planned if we put our minds to it. We can all do incredible things when you create goals and aspirations. " - Kristin
